2025 Larry Lawrence Scholarship Awardee!
The Brighton Historical Society is proud to announce that the 2025 Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship awardee is Lucas Wiktorowski.
The Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship is awarded yearly to any student that graduated from a Brighton Area school in the last five years and is going to a Vocational / Skilled Trade School.
Lucas is a 2022 graduate of Brighton High School, He just finished his first year of a four-year program to become a licensed electrician at Southeast Michigan Construction Academy.
Following high school where Lucas played Lacrosse and Hockey, he played 2 years of Junior hockey with the Metro Jets at the Mount Clemens Ice Arena in Mount Clemens, Michigan. They are members of the Great Lakes Conference in the United States Premier Hockey League’s Premier Division.
When not in school Lucas works for JL Home Installation.
Lucas chose Southeast Michigan Construction Academy because as he said in his application, “They have the program that I am interested in and I am able to work in a safe environment and they are a nationally accredited school.”
SEMCA describes itself as follows:
“SEMCA will develop you into a construction professional. For more than 30 years, the Southeast Michigan Construction Academy has been proud to provide valuable training to the construction industry’s emerging workforce. Formal education at a trade school gives our students a competitive advantage in the field. At SEMCA, we offer training in electrical, carpentry, HVAC and welding for residential, commercial and industrial-sized projects. We train apprentices to work on a wide variety of jobs. Pursue a career in a field that provides you the opportunity to make the most of your skills, see the results you want, and to live the happy and fulfilling life you deserve.”

2024 Awardee

2024 Larry Lawrence Scholarship Awardee!
The Brighton Area Historical Society would like to congratulate Katie Nelson, this year’s awardee of the Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship. Katie is a 2024 graduate of Brighton High School and will attend ATP Flight School. For the past nine months she has been working on her Private Pilot’s license. She stated that her role model is her older brother who is a pilot for Spirit Airlines.

2023 Awardee

The Brighton Area Historical Society is proud to announce that for 2023, we are awarding Maximilian Eric Anderson the Larry Lawrence Memorial Scholarship.
Max graduated from Cheryl Stockwell Academy on June 4 and will be attending Washtenaw Community College. Max is interested in Engine Dynamometer operation.
This is the fourth year for the scholarship program, Max is the eighth trade school student from the Brighton Area to be awarded a scholarship. The Larry Lawrence Scholarship Committee is sure Larry would be very pleased with this year’s selection.

The Brighton Area Historical Society is proud to announce that for 2022, we have awarded three Larry
Lawrence Memorial Scholarships to three young ladies, all graduates of Brighton High School. Elizabeth
and Karly Cacicedo will be attending school in Michigan, while Lauren will attend school in New York.
The scholarship committee feels Larry would be very pleased with these three. The scholarship program is in its third year and the committee would like to thank the many Brighton Area Historical Society Members and others that continue to donate to the scholarship program which makes these awards possible. Karly Cacicedo, is a Brighton High graduate, she will be attending the Douglas J Aveda School of Cosmetology her hopes and dreams are then go the Grand Valley State to study business. Her goal is to own her own hair studio. Karly is a delightful out going young lady.

MASON VERBISON
CLASS OF 2021 BHS
Mason Verbison, is a Brighton High graduate, he will be attending Washtenaw Community College studying Welding and Automotive technology. Mason has been a bike tech at a local bike shop for the past 5 years. And has can be seen in his photo loves his Jeep.

Logan is a car guy from the class of 2020, going to a local community college to study automotive repair.

Casey is a Class of 202 graduate going into a HVAC program at Washtenaw community college. Loves music but thinks HVAC is a better path.
